Welcome back to another episode of the Akashic musings podcast, today we are talking about introversion and extraversion, these terms are thrown around all the frickin time. And most people don't even know what they mean. They just have this distorted view of what they mean based on, you know, what they've seen on television, or what everybody's telling stories about regarding this. And most people think that if you're an introvert, you're quiet and shy. And if you're an extrovert, you're animated and noisy. And yes, those can be qualities, but it's a lot more complex than that. And I'm here to help you understand introversion and extraversion a little bit more clearly. So that you can really identify how your energy operates best so that you can honor that. And honestly just have more zest for life without feeling burnt out or drained. So I've always been an enormous introvert every single time I take the Myers Briggs Personality Test, and you can actually take that online, there's a modern version called 16 personalities.com, you can go there and take the test, it's a long one. So leave yourself a little time, maybe 20 to 30 minutes to get it done. But this is the assessment that a lot of corporate companies use to be able to identify people's strengths and kind of where they can fit in the best and how they are most efficient at work and things like that. So it's a very well known assessment. And I would say it's, it's fairly accurate. It's no assessment is everything, of course, but it's it's kind of fun, and it's a fun tool to be able to dive into. So every single time I've taken it, I've been between 86 and 92% introverted. So I love my alone time. And I love my space. And that's something that I need, not only within my environment, but within my mind and within my energy field and my body, etc. So one of the myths that I want to dispel is that introverts are never animated, and, like excited, because it's so funny. Everybody looks at my energy as wow, like you have an immense amount of energy, and I do I have immense energy. And one of the reasons that I do is because I honor my introversion and I allow myself to really cultivate time by myself. That is intentional. And that is super, super spacious, and just focused on soothing and loving myself and really doing whatever I want like giving myself freedom within that not making it productive time. Okay, so I'm super animated. I'm super animated with people that I love. I'm super animated. In general, let's be real. But introverts need a lot of space and time to reboot their energy. So I could go out to a party and be the life of the party for like two to three hours, I could be the life of the party, you would think I'm the biggest extrovert on the planet, but it drains my energy. When I'm with other people, it drains my energy, and I then have to reboot. I need a lot of downtime a lot of rest time to kind of get myself back into alignment. Okay. Whereas an extrovert gains energy by being with other people, they also need reboot time but they actually reboot by going out to the party, so they're gonna feel drained, probably depressed, a little bit sluggish, etc, if they're sitting around too much, and then they go out with other people. And it's like, they get this boost of energy, and they feel amazing. So that's really the biggest difference between introversion and extraversion. It's not about how you act. It's about whether social situations offer you energy, or drain your energy. And very, very often empaths or people on the spiritual path are introverts. And a big reason for this is because they're empaths. And so it's really important to identify, Okay, am I just absorbing other people's energy, because I don't have really good energetic boundaries. And I'm not really clear and aligned and feeling really, really solid in my confidence in who I am, and what I'm available for and what I'm not available for, because we can often think that we're introverted, but really, we're just absorbing other people's energy, because we haven't really identified what's ours and what's not ours. And then we don't have that really solid foundation to come back to. Okay. And what I found, which is really fascinating is that I want to spend 85% of my time by myself, I love being by myself. But I went to my retreat in May of this year, the retreat that I run in May in Massachusetts, freakin amazing.
6:29
And every single person that this retreat was perfectly aligned with my energy, like perfectly aligned, it was the most perfect group, great fit, everyone was like, super, super soul sisters 100%, through and through. And it's interesting because being with them, energized me. I did not feel drained by that retreat, I did not feel tired, I didn't feel burnt out, I didn't feel resentful. I didn't feel like I needed to reboot. Which was fascinating to me. Because it's really very rare for that to occur for me. So when you actually find those people in your life, that are so perfectly aligned for you, to the point where literally, you know, you've had like past lives together, you're like Soul Sister, Soul
7:20
brothers, whatever soulmates. You could talk all day, I could talk all day.
7:28
And even if you don't want to talk all day, being in their presence, doesn't drain you being in their presence is soothing. It's grounding, it's comforting, it's inspiring all of the things at the same time. So you can see how easy life can be how effortless and authentic and inspiring it can be when you find the absolutely perfectly matched souls. So it's kind of an experiment that I'm encouraging you to do here is like whether you're introverted or extroverted, instead of labeling yourself, because I don't like labels, I'm not a fan of them, even diagnostics, not a fan of that. So you have this label on you. But I want you to be a little bit hesitant to do that. And instead, observe yourself, observe your energy, your behavior, how long it takes you to recover, etc, based on who you're with, or certain situations you're in or certain environments, okay? Because that's going to be a real cue to you. And you don't have to come up with a million reasons why oh, I can't do that, because it drains me, or I can't do that, because I don't like this about it. Like, you don't want to make this an egoic analysis around. Well, I don't like this, because you know, we're not talking about egoic preference here as to like, what you like and what you don't like, you're simply observing how you naturally and automatically respond. So you could be somewhere and have an automatic response of severe anxiety, or have all of a sudden, I feel really passionate, or all of a sudden, I feel really angry about something. If there's a really, really obvious trigger, you're going to know, like, if there's a really, really obvious reason why you're feeling that way. You don't have to search your mind for answers. But if there's not a really obvious feeling, or reason for you feeling that way that just happened in that environment or with somebody else that you're hanging out with or whatever, then that is something that you're responding to, on an energetic level. And you get to then notice that observe that Oh, that's interesting. You don't necessarily need to know why. Why did that piss me off? Or why did that bother me? Or why did that make me so passionate all of a sudden, right? If you don't have a very clear answer on it, don't get into analysis, just start to kind of note it right and notice your patterns. Because what you're doing is you're starting to get into your energy a little bit. It's almost like you're gathering data and information from your body, from your emotions from your natural reactions to things, which is not only giving you information about what's going on in your subconscious mind, but it's more importantly giving you information about your energy which exists at a microscopic level. underneath all of that, underneath your any kind of mind, subconscious, conscious, unconscious, okay? And the more that we practice this and the more that we get in touch with this, the more awareness we have about how our energy operates. And then we place ourselves in situations where we can be successful. And when we do that, and we're consistently going into relationships, where we feel or environments where we feel except successful, and confident, and like it brings out the best in us, the clearer it's going to be, what we are and what we are not available for, which increases your confidence increases your decisiveness improves your relationships, because you have really healthy boundaries in place and you're not sacrificing yourself, for other people all the time you have this equal giving and receiving in your relationships and in your environment. And it feels like this even exchange, it feels like a very natural exchange, and you feel more in harmony and more at peace. So I love this concept, I think that it's really helpful to be able to start to observe our energy a little bit more and get to know ourselves more intimately so that we can place ourselves in relationships in situations that allow us to continue to grow into the highest form of ourselves. So thank you so much for listening to this episode, I encourage you to go to 16 personalities.com and check it out just for fun. But more importantly, I really want you to start observing how your energy responds, and then being really delicate and kind and soothing and gentle and offering yourself the space and the opportunity to cultivate more of the energy that's natural to you. And that feels really, really aligned. Thanks so much for listening, and I'll see you next week on another episode of the
